Clarity, Connection, Inspiration

Man writing notes on wooden table on sunset.

My youngest child had just turned one and my marriage was on the rocks. We left the other two children with my parents and hopped a plane for Colorado, where I would immerse for a week in narrative nonfiction writing with a great teacher, hugged by Aspen’s beautiful landscape.

We landed in Denver and every connecting flight to Aspen was canceled. So we rented the last available car for way too much money and set out to drive four hours on winding twi-lit roads, with the baby in his carseat, and hope in our hearts that this trip would prove inspiring in more ways than one.

That week, we hiked Maroon Bells with my little guy in the baby backpack on his father’s shoulders. I wrote copiously in my incredible seminar and attended lectures in other genres where I met one of my now-favorite friends, April. She and I talked about the magic of relationships that work and the terror of relationships that won’t.

That was eight years ago and although that fall I filed for divorce, the act of getting away into beautiful landscape and among wonderful people truly helped me to gain clarity on my mission in life.

My writing flourished after that week because I gave myself the gift of time away to focus on my craft. That could be you.

My business grew after that week because I had renewed clear vision of my purpose and my passion. That could be you.

I commend my ex for going with me on that far-flung attempt at connection and I have to say, we both had renewed hope that maybe we’d make it after all. Getting away does a relationship good.

And even moreso, it helps the people in that relationship pinpoint their purpose, passion and zeal for life in a way that staying home just doesn’t provide. That could be YOU.

I share all this with you today to encourage you to consider joining me for five days of inspiration, clarity and connection this summer on beautiful Mackinac Island.

We’ll do a little yoga. We’ll write. We’ll talk. We’ll hike and bike and gather with incredible like-minded peers.

And best of all, we’ll have that much-needed time to ourselves to listen to the inner intuitive voice that doesn’t get much play in the normal course of crazy-busy lives.

Join me June 27th. You have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
