On the first day of Seth Godin‘s Medicineball Seminar, I received 78 emails. 50 of them were irrelevant.

I’d turned off my phone so I could fully immerse in the seminar I’d traveled to Hastings-on-Hudson to participate in, along with people from Malta and Sydney and Nova Scotia and Chicago.

The day prior, I’d interrupted my own work flow constantly, checking emails and getting distracted. But more than two-thirds of the emails I was receiving I deemed unnecessary enough to delete after a powerful day of paying attention. Hmmm…something to chew on.

If we can just whisk away the emails that don’t matter, then imagine how much more time we might have to create, innovate, inspire, live a life of real meaning and purpose?

I’ll write many blogs about the insights I’ve gained from this great experience. Here are some nuggets to chew on:

Bottom line: everything boils down to storytelling. Are you telling a story that resonates and spreads? And are people listening who a) care and b) want to spread it for you?

We are part of a Connection Revolution where all business is about connecting with others – not about industrially churning out products and widgets and working the factory line. We are living in a time of innovating, of calling your own shots, of coming up with the next best thing that you can do in your world.

Any obstacles before us are ours alone and only we can knock them down. There is not a lack of opportunity; we just have to get out of our own way to do the art of innovation.

Everyone has access today. The value of being a cog in the wheel has plummeted to zero. What can you do that no one else can do?
