I’ve always been a writer. For decades, I didn’t believe it was how I could live my life, but I’ve always turned to the written word to figure out what I think, understand how I feel, clarify what I believe. My mother says I was 6 years old when I first wrote a story and later, at the age of 9 or 10, I carried around a corduroy-covered journal, whose pages I filled with stories, poems, and skits. It came on family vacations, and I asked my childhood best friend (also a writer) to illustrate the inside cover (it’s the behind of an elephant with the words The End in lovely script – thanks, Melissa!).

I write to capture the beauty in ordinary moments. That journal sits on a shelf behind my desk, to remind me of who I’ve always been, and to stay true to that person, even when it’s hard.

Professionally, I spent 15 years as a journalist in New York, Washington, D.C., and Detroit. I also earned an MFA in Writing from Goddard College, and I’ve taught writing in universities and around the world for decades. In 2007, I pivoted from journalism to become a marketing entrepreneur. That’s when I created Your People LLC, a marketing and public relations company that has represented yoga businesses, entrepreneurs, nonprofits, universities and Waldorf schools and now, we help authors build their brands and market their books.

Just before the pandemic, I pivoted again, to return to my writing roots. I shrank my business to focus on writing novels, teaching writing and coaching writers. I plan to write a book a year for the rest of my life. At that time, I’d already had eight books published – two poetry collections and six nonfiction books. At midlife, I started writing fiction and established an author brand that focuses on creating compelling Jewish characters in literary, suspenseful novels. My writing has always focused on identity, spirituality, and relationships with self, world and nature, with themes from my strong Jewish heritage woven through.

My first award-winning novel, WOMAN OF VALOR debuted on September 26, 2023, via SCOTIA ROAD BOOKS, an independent publishing imprint for women over 40 with strong voices that need to be heard. That’s my new publishing house, and I chose to publish this way because I wanted to shepherd my books into the world with my hand in every stage of the publishing process. Plus, I didn’t want to jump through hoops to make other people money! My next novel, CAVE OF SECRETS, will launch August 27, 2024. Check out all my books here.

I write 5 mornings a week, and devote afternoons to teaching and working with clients. I help writers build their author brands and hone their craft through Developmental Editing and Book Coaching, an Author Brand Marketing Mastermind, The Writers Community and Writing Coaching. I also teach writing classes through

I am a graduate of the University of Michigan and Goddard College, and I earned a Certificate in Entrepreneurship from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program at Wayne State University. The mother of four young adults, I live in Huntington Woods, Michigan with my husband Dan.
